LAHORE: Pakistan selection committee, headed by Iqbal Qasim, announced 15-man squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2013 today at the Gaddafi Stadium. The all-rounder Shahid Afridi and the middle-order batsman Umar Akmal couldn’t win selectors’ vote for the marquee event.
Apart from the exclusions mentioned above there wasn’t any surprise move. The middle-order batsman Umer Amin was selected ahead of Haris Sohail. The left-arm pacer Wahab Riaz retained his place in the One Day squad. The right-arm pacer Asad Ali, who was a top performer in recent Faysal Bank One Day Cup, got selected to play the eight-nation tournament starting from June 6 in England.
The fast bowler Ehsan Adil, who has played one Test for Pakistan, was selected in the One Day squad for first time in his career. Abdur Rehman was named second spinner in the fifteen beside Saeed Ajmal. Imran Farhat has also retained his place.
The same squad will travel to Scotland and Ireland where they will play four One Day Internationals (two against each team).
